Crisis Through Pentecost

In the Old Testament Pentecost was a feast day for the Jewish. They celebrated the beginning of the first harvest, also known as the Feast of Harvest or the Feast of Weeks. However in Christianity Pentecost is celebration and remembrance of the Holy Spirit descending upon the Apostles and other followers. 10 Days after Jesus ascended to heaven and all his disciples were gathered to celebrate the Feast of Harvest, he sent them a gift, the gift of the Holy Spirit. 

Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2 

The Holy Spirit came and filled the disciples and in that moment Christianity became more than just Jesus’ life, it became life in everyone who receives the Holy Spirit and it is through the Holy Spirit that we have a connection with God. We can all ask and receive the Holy Spirit into our hearts, he will guide us and give us strength to accomplish God’s will. 

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. - Romans 26-27

And just like Peter and all the disciples did not allow themselves to be shaken by uncertainty and persecution, we can endure the uncertainties of this pandemic and all the violence we are currently living in because we are not alone; God will not abandon our souls, he will give us strength. Let the Spirit of Pentecost move through out the walls of our homes and our hearts and remind us that we are not alone.
