Healing Prayer for Loved Ones

Healing Prayer for Loved Ones

4 min readPastor West

Lord Jesus, I thank you for loving me and loving those I care about. I ask that you would heal this disease, I ask that you would have compassion and bring healing from all sickness. As I reflect on your goodness, I'm reminded of the countless times you've intervened in the lives of those I'm praying for, and I'm filled with hope that you will do the same for them. I've seen your healing power at work in a friend's story, and it gives me confidence to ask for your intervention now. For instance, I think of a time when our community came together to support a single mother who was struggling to make ends meet while also dealing with a serious health issue - we saw God provide for her needs in remarkable ways, from financial support to emotional comfort, and it's experiences like these that remind me of your faithfulness.

Your word says that when we call out to you, you will give the order, heal and rescue us from difficult situations. In the Bible, I have read of miraculous healing and I believe that you still heal the same way today. I've seen this firsthand in a friend's recovery, and as we prayed for relief, they began to experience a significant reduction in their symptoms, which allowed them to reengage in activities they thought were lost to them. This reminds me of a personal experience where I witnessed a family member find peace and comfort in the midst of a challenging time, and it's in these moments that I'm reminded of the power of prayer and community.

God, you are in control of everything that happens from our first breath to our last sigh. I believe that there is no illness you cannot heal. In Jesus, those we love will receive the ultimate rescue. Amen.

“Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.”

Healing Beyond Physical Health

When we pray for the healing of loved ones, we often focus on physical restoration. However, true healing encompasses more than just the body. Emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being are all interconnected aspects of our overall health. The Bible reminds us that God is concerned with the entirety of our being, not just our physical bodies. In , we're encouraged to "praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and do not forget all his benefits—who forgives all your sin and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."

Jesus' ministry on earth exemplified this holistic approach to healing. He not only healed physical ailments but also offered forgiveness, peace, and spiritual restoration. His touch brought wholeness to those who were broken, illustrating that healing is about becoming whole again—body, soul, and spirit. When we pray for healing, we should consider asking God to address any underlying emotional or spiritual issues that may be affecting someone's health. For example, I think of someone whose anxiety was exacerbating their physical condition, and as we prayed for peace and calm, we saw a significant improvement in their overall well-being.

So, how can we incorporate this broader understanding of healing into our prayers? Start by asking God to reveal areas where someone might be struggling - with fears, doubts, or unmet needs. Then, pray specifically for healing in those areas, trusting that God’s power and love can bring complete restoration. Remember, His compassion and healing are available to all, and He desires our wholeness. By expanding our view of healing, we open ourselves to a deeper experience of God’s love and care for every aspect of our being and those we love.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How can I pray for a loved one who is struggling with a serious illness?

When praying for a loved one who is struggling with a serious illness, call out to Lord Jesus with faith and compassion, asking for healing and rescue from distress and difficulty. You can use Psalm 107 as a source of inspiration, remembering that Lord Jesus is the ultimate healer and controller of everything. As Scripture says, 'Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress' (Psalm 107:6).

Q:Can I pray for healing if I'm not sure if it's God's will?

It's natural to wonder if it's God's will to heal someone. However, Scripture encourages us to ask God for healing and to trust in His goodness and sovereignty. As Jesus said, 'Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you' (Matthew 7:7-8). You can pray with faith and surrender, asking God to align His will with your request.

Q:How can I support a loved one who is struggling with illness or injury?

In addition to praying for a loved one who is struggling, you can also offer practical support and care. This might include helping with daily tasks, providing emotional support, or simply being present with them. As Scripture says, 'Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ' (Galatians 6:2).

Q:What if my prayer for healing isn't answered?

It's not uncommon for prayers for healing to not be answered in the way we hope. However, Scripture encourages us to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't understand. As the apostle Paul wrote, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness' (2 Corinthians 12:9). You can continue to pray and trust in God's ultimate plan, even if it's not what you had hoped for.
