Getting to Know God
To be who God really wants us to be, we must know who God really is. Generally, we tend to be searching for ourselves, in a search to know ourselves better, which is excellent. We have to understand who we are and what we stand for. Understanding ourselves is essential for self-awareness. To make improvements in our lives, it is necessary to empower ourselves and make changes where needed. However, to glorify God, we must make it a priority to know who He really is. Many people may feel like they know God, but if we think about it, our idea of who He is, at least for many of us, came from other people rather than from God’s word. This is why our views or beliefs rarely match what the Bible says about God. Very few people have the key to God’s Holy Spirit; only those willing to accept His knowledge and those who obey Him and live by his precepts know what God is really like.
Let this not deter your pursuit to be closer to God and to get to know Him better. In fact, make this a reason for you to want to get to know Him better and have a closer relationship with Him. One way to approach this is by looking at God as the Creator and Savior; this will make our worship stronger and more meaningful. For instance, I recall a moment when I was struggling to find purpose, and I stumbled upon a verse that reminded me of God's sovereignty - it was a turning point for me, and I began to see my life as part of a larger narrative, one that God was authoring. As I reflect on that experience, I'm reminded of the importance of seeking God's guidance in our daily lives, and I've found that even in mundane tasks, I can find joy and purpose when I'm connected to Him.
Understanding God as a Creator and Savior helps us realize not only our feelings towards him but a deeper understanding of what makes him who He is. The more we know Him, the better we understand ourselves and what he wants from us. The more we know him, the greater appreciation we will have of who he really is. For instance, when we face difficult times, knowing God's character can bring us comfort and peace - I've experienced this personally when I was going through a tough period in my life, and turning to God's word helped me find solace in His promises. I remember being at a worship service, and the pastor shared a story of how God provided for their community during a time of need; it was a powerful reminder of God's faithfulness and care for His people. This experience has stayed with me, and I've seen similar examples of God's provision in my own life, such as when a friend unexpectedly offered to help me with a challenging project, and I felt God's presence in that moment of kindness.
“But it is written: What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived, the things God has prepared for those who love him. These are the thingsGod has revealed to us by his Spirit.” - Corinthians 2:9-10
God is our Creator; he is full of love and mercy. He forgives our sins and gives us eternal life as long as we truly repent. God is just, and his judgment should never be overlooked. He is our healer. With his Devine power, he can heal our bodies and our spirit even when no one else can, even when in our current society, His miracles are not always recognized. I've seen this in the life of a friend who was struggling with addiction, and through prayer and community, they found healing and freedom - God's power and love were clearly at work in their life, transforming their circumstances and restoring their sense of purpose.
Compassion is also one of his greatest attributes, “The Lord is full of compassion and mercy” -
Knowing God is not just about gaining knowledge but also about recognizing his calling and learning how we can receive his glory. As we seek to understand our Creator, we will experience his power and see how He works in our life, transforming our relationships and guiding us towards a more meaningful existence.
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. -
