Why Mental Health Matters for Adults:
Mental health is an important aspect of adult life, and it is essential to understand its impact on our well-being. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 1 in 5 American adults experience a mental health disorder in a single year. This means that almost half of all American adults will experience a mental illness during the course of their lifetime. Additionally, more than 20 million Americans ages 12 and older will face an addiction. I recall a conversation with a friend who struggled with anxiety, and how it affected their daily life - a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing our mental wellbeing.
How Support for Mental Wellness Can Help:
Mental Health First Aid for Adults is a program that addresses common mental health concerns encountered by adults. It reduces stigma, teaches strategies for family members, friends, and peers to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges and offer support, and offers self-help strategies for staying mentally well. By taking a compassionate approach to mental wellness, we can create a safe space for individuals to open up and share their struggles, much like the way a trusted friend or family member would.

At the beginning of their final semester at Bucknell, many senior students are searching for the answer to the inevitable question, “What’s next?” The journey into the job market or graduate school can feel like a daunting process, however, luckily, Bucknell recognizes these challenges. Earlier this week on Tuesday Feb. 6, Bucknell hosted one of its many On-Campus Career Fairs. With the opportunity to discuss job and internship opportunities directly with recruiters, these fairs are popular networking events. All are encouraged to explore different industries and career possibilities. Outside of large networking events, Bucknell constantly provides opportunities for students to explore different career paths, such as through the Bucknell Career Center, Career Development Workshops, and Career Development Services. As students navigate this critical phase, it's essential to prioritize self-care and seek guidance from mentors, much like the way we would prioritize our physical health by seeking medical attention when needed.
