Easter, a Christian Holiday
Easter, a Christian holiday with roots in the Ancient Roman festival of Passover, has become an important day for Christians all over the world. The celebration of Easter isn't something we find in the Bible; it is a tradition that came about later in history. Originating from an ancient Roman celebration of the Unleavened Bread, Easter's meaning has changed slightly over the centuries. What originally was just a gathering of Israelites before the Passover holiday was transformed into a day of a miracle by the followers of Jesus Christ.
How Christians celebrate Easter has varied throughout the years. While it is still celebrated in many parts of the world today, the Easter Sunday tradition started on the first Sunday of Lent during the Roman period. This particular holiday symbolizes the joy of having received the gift of salvation.
Some know Easter Sunday as All Saints Day. Some also choose to call it All Hallows Eve. Easter began on the first Sunday of Lent and was changed by Rome to their calendar later on. Easter is generally linked to Jesus' resurrection. It is a day of joy and happiness for all Christians.
If you are attending any Christian function, you may notice that there are plenty of Easter eggs floating around. These eggs represent the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ when he gave his life for us. Breaking an egg symbolizes everything Christ accomplished for us.
Many people have different reasons for celebrating this holy holiday. For most, it's all about the egg hunt specially for the little ones, while for others is about the gift of life. But the most important thing is to remember that this day is dedicated to Christ and the message he gave to the world. It is a blessed day that we can all celebrate with our loved ones and while we enjoy other fun Easter activities, let your prayers be part of the celebration too. Enjoy this wonderful holiday!
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3
Celebrate Easter with joy and optimism because Jesus did not only die for us on the cross, He came to bring us God's message of unconditional and undying love and forgiveness. Easter Sunday is a reminder that nothing can separate us from the God's love and his promise of eternal life.
