What is Beauty?
Is beauty defined by the color of your skin or your eyes or by your body shape? We all have different perspectives on what beauty is. There is beauty in everything, but not everyone sees it; some may be able to see beauty in others but not in their own lives. It really depends on your emotional state of mind, attitude, and disposition. Each one of us is capable of seeing beauty, but not in the same way. What you may see as beautiful may not be as beautiful in someone else’s eyes. Hence the phrase, everything has beauty, but not everyone can see it. I've come to realize this in my own life, where I've had to learn to appreciate the small, often overlooked moments - like a warm conversation with a stranger or a beautiful sunrise after a difficult night. For example, I recall a time when I stumbled upon a local art exhibit, and one particular piece caught my attention - a sculpture made from recycled materials, which not only showcased the artist's creativity but also highlighted the beauty of reusing and repurposing everyday items.
With that said, physical beauty isn’t everything; it's internal beauty that matters the most. This may be such a cliche, but we can’t deny it is true. For instance, I recall a story of a woman who, despite struggling with a serious illness, continued to inspire those around her with her kindness, generosity, and positive outlook on life. Her beauty was not about her physical appearance, but about the impact she had on the people she met.
We can find beauty all around us; beauty can be a positive thought, seeing the good side of things even in the worst situations. Beauty is a kind heart and acceptance of ourselves and others as they are. Finding beauty in things that are already beautiful is easy, like a sunset or a flower, but being able to transform a negative situation into something good or beautiful is sometimes difficult. However, beauty is already a part of every one of us; beauty is within us - all the qualities that make us who we are. Beauty is not materialistic, and it’s not about being perfect; it’s about being comfortable in our own skin, and it’s about compassion and love. I've seen this in my own community, where a local volunteer group transformed an abandoned park into a vibrant garden, bringing people together and creating a space for connection and growth.
Accept yourself with all your flaws, be kind, and don’t let society dictate or give you a false idea of what true beauty is. If you want to experience beauty, start by being kind to yourself and everyone around you, transform a bad situation into a positive one, and try to find beauty in every moment of your life. And remember that physical beauty doesn’t last forever, but a great character will always be remembered. As I reflect on my own journey, I'm reminded that the small, everyday choices - like choosing to listen rather than speak, or to forgive rather than hold grudges - shape our inner beauty and character in lasting ways, making us more compassionate and empathetic towards others. I also think about the people who have inspired me along the way, like a friend who selflessly donates their time to help those in need, and how their selflessness is a testament to the beauty of kindness and generosity.
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4
