Raising Children with the Guidance of the Bible
Children are a gift and a blessing from God. This is what we know and have been taught by our parents. They come into the world innocent and pure, and they grow up to be our future. As I reflect on my own childhood, I realize the importance of my parents' guidance in shaping my values and faith, and I strive to do the same for my own children, teaching them to navigate life's challenges with wisdom and compassion.
As parents, it is essential to teach our children life lessons that will help them stay innocent for as long as possible, and the Bible contains words of wisdom to help us do that and help us raise them and teach them the way of the Lord. For instance, I recall a situation where my child was struggling to share with their friends, and I used the opportunity to explain the value of kindness and generosity, referencing biblical teachings on loving our neighbors as ourselves. Another time, my child was feeling anxious about an upcoming event, and we prayed together, finding comfort in , which reminds us to cast our cares on the Lord, and I was grateful to see my child's fears alleviated by the power of prayer and scripture. I also remember a family volunteer day when my children helped serve at a local food bank, and as we reflected on the experience, I shared with them the biblical principle of caring for the needy, as seen in , and witnessed their young hearts growing in empathy and understanding of the importance of serving others.
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.
Isiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.
Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
