Honoring Our Veterans in Prayer

An act approved on May 13th, 1938, made November 11th of each year a legal holiday to be dedicated to honor the veterans of World War I. Though it began as Armistice Day, it was amended and became a day to honor American veterans of all wars and since then has been celebrated as Veterans Day. As I sit in my quiet kitchen, surrounded by the familiar comforts of home, I am reminded of a family friend, a veteran who still bears the physical and emotional scars of war - the faint smell of old photographs, the creaky chair where they sit, telling stories of their time in service. It is for them, and for all those like them, that we pray, seeking God's healing and comfort in their lives. I recall a particular visit to a local VA hospital, where I witnessed the profound impact of community and prayer on the recovery and well-being of veterans, as people from different backgrounds came together to support and care for one another, and faith played a significant role in their journey towards healing and wholeness. On a personal level, I've seen how a simple gesture, like sending a care package or writing a heartfelt letter, can bring joy and a sense of connection to a veteran's life, reminding them that they are not alone and that their sacrifices are valued and appreciated.

God, today we pray for all the veterans of our nation. Men and women who gave their best and gave their lives when they were called to protect their country. We pray that you bless them for their unselfish action to preserve our freedom and our safety. Dear God, please bring healing to those who are still hurting and help them through the healing process. Please bring them closer to you, comfort their hearts and grant them peace. Let no-one feel forgotten. In Jesus’ name Amen.
