Why Should We Fear a Loving God

Luke 12:4-5

I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you in hell.

Thoughts on this verse...

Most of us know God’s grace, love, and mercy, but we run into one of those verses that remind us of our sins every so often. God is indeed loving and merciful, and Jesus is proof of that. However, if we ignore his mercy and love, we are choosing to reject Jesus; we are choosing judgment. When we reject Jesus, we are also rejecting God and his grace.

The Bible tells us to fear the Lord and it also tells us to love Him, though this may seem like a contradiction, once we understand why the Bible actually means it all makes perfect sense.

We need to take the word of God seriously because he has the power to throw us in hell, and he will be the one to judge us. Fearing God is not a bad thing, it helps us stay away from committing sins, and He is also our source of strength and love that makes us perform many acts of kindness.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and the sacrifice that your beloved son would die for my sins. Lord, please forgive me for the sins I’ve committed and give me the strength so I may do better each day and continue to stay strong in my faith and walk in your way. May your loving grace restore my soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen
