Every Christian Has a Guardian Angel

Angels are everywhere, figuratively and literally. We see them on paintings, figurines, clothing and just about everything we can imagine. But, do Angels really exist? This question has been asked and debated for a long time. The idea is that every person has an angel to guard them and a demon to tempt them. The belief in guardian angels comes from early Christian texts that mention angels such as this parable in the Bible:

Matthew 18:10
See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Some think this verse indicates that the ā€œlittle onesā€ are the believers and each believer has an angel in heaven assigned to them. These texts don’t say anything about what the angels do but, despite that, there are other passages in the Bible that mention angels like this one:

Daniel 6:22
My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouth of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.

In the Old Testament angels are mentioned multiple times. It says that angels are God’s messengers, they were created to obey God’s will. Angels are not as powerful as God, though they do possess immense strength. Angels deliver information and guide us through difficult moments, they carry out God’s answers to our prayers.

If these remarkable creatures were sent to watch over us and deliver messages from God; it is important to keep in mind that the messenger is never more important than the sender.

Perhaps these special messengers from God will be our companions and carry us to heaven when the time comes, they will be the first ones to see our joy as we pass through the gates of heaven. Whether angels are real or just a figment of our imagination, their presence continues to comfort many.

Angels in Our Darkest Moments

When life takes a difficult turn, it's natural to wonder if we're truly alone. The Bible reminds us that God is always with us, and that includes His heavenly messengers. In Daniel 6:22, we read, "My God sent his angels, and they shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done anything wrong before you, O king." This story showcases the powerful role angels play in protecting and delivering us from harm.

We may not always see or sense their presence, but that doesn't mean they're not working on our behalf. Angels can bring comfort and peace in times of uncertainty, grief, or fear. They remind us that we're not forgotten or abandoned, and that God is actively working in our lives. When we're struggling to find hope or feel overwhelmed, we can pray for angelic guidance and protection, trusting that God will send His messengers to minister to us.

So how can we invite angelic support into our lives? Start by acknowledging their presence and role in your life. You can pray a simple prayer, such as, "Dear God, I invite Your angels to surround me with Your love and protection. Help me to sense their presence and guidance, and bring me comfort in times of need." As you cultivate a deeper awareness of God's loving care, you may begin to notice subtle signs of angelic presence, such as a gentle whisper of encouragement or a reassuring sense of peace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Do I have a guardian angel if I'm not a Christian?

While the concept of guardian angels is rooted in Christianity, many people believe that God's love and care extend to all individuals, regardless of their faith background. The Bible teaches that God 'is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made' (Psalm 145:9). However, the specific role of guardian angels in non-Christian traditions may vary.

Q:Can I communicate with my guardian angel?

While there's no formula for communicating with a guardian angel, many people find comfort in praying or simply talking to their angel as they would to a trusted friend. Scripture encourages us to 'pray continually' (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and to 'cast our cares' on God (1 Peter 5:7), trusting that He hears and responds to our prayers.

Q:How can I discern if I'm receiving guidance from my guardian angel or my own thoughts?

As you seek guidance, remember that God's voice often aligns with Scripture and leads you toward love, peace, and wisdom. The Bible teaches that God's Spirit will 'guide you into all the truth' (John 16:13) and that we can 'test all things' and 'hold fast to what is good' (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Q:Can guardian angels protect me from harm or evil?

Many people believe that guardian angels play a role in protecting us from harm, citing examples like Daniel 6:22, where an angel delivers Daniel from the lions. While we can't always understand the ways God works, Scripture reassures us that He is our 'refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble' (Psalm 46:1) and that His angels 'minister to us' (Hebrews 1:14).
